Notes Married:
- In the 1900 Census, Mary Ann Moore Claxton was widowed. She had born a total of 9 children, 7 of which were then living - Lonnie B., 19; Luther Martin, 16; Henrietta, 12; John L., 10; Calley, 7; Michel L., 5; William H., 2. Two other unknown children must have been born and died between her marriage in 1881 and the census in 1900.
In the 1910 Census, Mary Ann Moore Claxton Tye is married to H. C. Tye - married in 1909. The 5 Tye children, ages 22-13, living with them are from H. C. Tye's first marriage. There are 3 Claxton children living with them, step-children to H. C. Tye - Norma, 27; Mike L., 15; Dewy, 7. In this census, Mary Ann has had a total of 10 children, 7 of which are living. Thus between 1900 and 1910, she had one more child, and one more died. The differences between these two census reports raises several questions.
Dewy (1910 Census) was born about 1903 by an unknown father between Mary Ann's first husband's death and her second marriage. Dewy would account for the increase from 9 total children in 1900 to 10 in 1910.
Calley (1900 Census) is not in the 1910 Census and I could not find any later records of her. Therefore she may have died between 1900 and 1910, and with Dewy's birth, would account for the same number of living children for Mary Ann in 1900 and 1910.
If Lonnie B. (1900 Census) and Norma (1910 Census) are the same person, then the total number and living number of children in each census are correct, as there are 7 living children accounted for in each census. Sources indicate they were born in February in 1881 and February 1880. If they are two different children, then the children numbers for Mary Ann are wrong in both census. I could not find any records of Lonnie other than the 1900 Census. I did find Norma's death certificate in 1942 when she was married to Jim Vinsant (marriage date unknown). The only other possible records of Norma found are (1) Normon (Norma?) Claxton, female, marrying E. Mc Homes in Campbell Co., TN on 20 Mar 1911, and (2) Norma Neal, age 35, married to George Neal in the 1920 Census in Campbell Co., TN, on the same page with the Cash and Mandie Claxton family.
