  	Revolutionary War as an Ensign and Indian Spy in several deployments
  	Role: Heir On 11 October 1775 he was commissioned as an Ensign in the Militia in Botetourt County by the Committee of Safety for the Colony of Virginia, while living on the Greenbriar River on the western frontier of Virginia. In the fall and winter of 1776-77 he served 3 months under Captain PAXTON, Colonel DICKSON and General HAMILTON against the Shawnee Indians. In 1777 he was appointed an Indian Spy, and served at various times from 1777 until 1783 for a total of 1 year and 6 months under Captain COOK. Per the U.S. Revolutionary War Claim Act of 7 June 1832, he filed his pension claim, No. S.3252, in July 1833. It was returned for more information, and refiled in December. The pension certificate for $90 per year was signed on 20 December 1833, just after his death. His widow, Esther, was entitled to and received the $90 per annum.
