    • He began as a Captin in the First Virginia Regiment, became a Colonel of militia in 177, and a Brigadier General in 1780. He assisted in the victory at Kings Mountain (7 October 1780). He commanded Shelby's militia regiment at the battle of Yorktown (28 September - 19 October, 1781), dying shortly before the victory.
