Winton was built by Col. Joseph Cabell (1732-1798) about 1770. Cabell sold it in 1779 to Col. Samuel Meredith Jr., husband of Jane Henry. Sarah Winston Syme Henry, mother of Jane Henry and Patrick Henry, is buried in the graveyard here.
