1663 - A charter was issued to eight English noblemen for the Province of Carolina, England.

1707 - On 1 May, England became a part of the UK.

1712 - The Province of Carolina was split into the Province of North Carolina and the Province of South Carolina.

1770 - Wake County was formed from portions of Cumberland County, Johnston County and Orange County, in the Province of North Carolina, GB.

1776 - On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. In November, North Carolina created a state constitution.

1778 - On 5 April, North Carolina was the 10th state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.

1789 - On 21 November, North Carolina became the 12th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.

1888 - Durham County formed from portions of Wake County and Orange County.

1911 - Durham County received land from Wake County, creating Wake County's present day boundries.
