1801 - Springfield was founded in Ross County in the Northwest Territory, USA.

1803 - On 1 March, Ohio became the 17th state in the United States of America. Greene County formed from portions of Ross County and Hamilton County, and included the city of Springfield.

1805 - Champaign County formed from portions of Greene County and Franklin County, and included the city of Springfield.

1818 - Clark County was formed from portions of Champaign County, Madison County and Greene County, and included the city of Springfield, which became the county seat of Clark County.
