1645 - Northumberland County was formed in the Colony of Virginia, England.
1651 - Lancaster County formed from a portion of Northumberland County.
1653 - Westmoreland County formed from a portion of Northumberland County.
1664 - Stafford County was formed from a portion of Westmoreland County.
1692 - Richmond County was formed from a portion of Rappahannock County (Old) in the Colony of Virginia, England.
1707 - On 1 May, England became a part of the UK.
1720 - King George County was formed from portions of Richmond County and Westmoreland County.
1731 - Prince William County formed from portions of Stafford County and King George County.
1742 - Fairfax County ws formed from a portion of Prince William County.
1759 - Fauquier County was formed froortion of Prince William County.
1776 - On 29 June, Virginia became the Commonwealth of Virginia with its own Constitution, independent from the UK. On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.
1777 - On 16 December, Virginia was the first state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.
1788 - On 25 June, Virginia became the 10th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.
1990 - The City of Manassas Park received land from Prince William County, creating Prince William County's present day boundries.
