1634 - Charles City County was formed in the Colony of Virginia, England. It was one of the first eight shires, or counties, formed in Virginia.
1703 - Prince George County was formed from a portion of Charles City County, creating Charles City County's present day boundries.
1707 - On 1 May, England became a part of the UK.
1720 - Brunswick County was formed from a portion of Prince George County.
1723 - Brunswick County received additional land from Surry County and Isle of Wight County.
1732 - Brunswick County received additional land from Surry County and Isle of Wight County.
1735 - Amelia County formed from portions of Brunswick County and Prince George County.
1746 - Lunenburg County was formed from a portion of Brunswick County.
1752 - Halifax County formed from a portion of Lunenburg County.
1767 - Pittsylvania County was formed from a portion of Halifax County.
1776 - On 29 June, Virginia became the Commonwealth of Virginia with its own Constitution, independent from the UK. On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.
1777 - Henry County was formed from a portion of Pittsylvania County, creating Pittsylvania County's present day boundries.
1777 - On 16 December, Virginia was the first state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.
1788 - On 25 June, Virginia became the 10th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.
