1716 - Natchez was established in French Louisiana.

1763 - France ceded this area to Great Britian.

1779 - Spain took control of this area.

1795 - Spain ceded this area to the United States of America.

1798 - The Mississippi Territory was established from land ceded to the federal government by Georgia and South Carolina. Adams County was formed in the territory as one of the original counties. Natchez became the capital of the Mississippi Territory until 1802.

1817 - On 10 December, Mississippi became the 20th state in the United States of America. Natchez became the first capital of the state of Mississippi.
