1819 - Shelby County was formed from a portion of the Western District, Tennessee, USA, and Memphis was founded as the county seat of Shelby County, and incorporated in 1826.

1824 - Fayette County formed from portions of Shelby County and Hardeman County.

1860-1870 - Shelby County received land from Tipton County.

1890-1900 - Tipton County received land from Shelby County.

1930-1960 - Shelby County received land from Tipton County, creating Shelby County's present day boundries.
