Notes:
1789 - On 21 November, North Carolina became the 12th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.
1790 - On 26 May, North Carolina again ceded the Western Territory to the Federal Government. The United States Congress established a territorial government called "Territory of the United States South of the River Ohio", better known as the Southwest Territory. It was essentially the land area that later became the State Tennessee.
1793 - The Hamilton District in the Southwest Territory was created from the southwest portion of the Western District. It included the new counties of Jefferson and Knox, both formed from portions of Greene County and Hawkins County.
1795 - Blount County formed from a portion of Knox County, Hamilton District, Southwest Territory, and Maryville was founded as the county seat of Blount County.
1796 - On 1 June, Tennessee became the 16th state in the United States of America, with the 11 counties that were in the Southwest Territory.
1806 - Sevier County received land from Blount County.
1830-1840 - Blount County received land from Monroe County.
1870 - Loudon County formed from portions of Blount County, McMinn County, Monroe County and Roane County.
1903 - Sevier County received land from Blount County, creating Blount County's present day boundries.
