1729 - Lancaster County was formed from a portion of Chester County, Pennsylvania Colony, GB.

1734 - The town of Lancaster was founded in Lancaster County, and it became the county seat of Lancaster County.

1742 - Lancaster was incorporated as a borough.

1776 - On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.

1777 - On 27 September, Lancaster was the capital of the United States for one day as the government fled Philadelphia after its capture by the British during the Revolutionary War.

1778 - On 5 March, Pennsylvania was the 8th state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.

1787 - On 12 December, Pennsylvania became the 2nd state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.

1799 - Lancaster was the capital of Pennsylvania until 1812.

1818 - Lancaster was incorporated as a city.
