Notes:
1816 - Jackson County was formed from portions of Washington County, Clark County and Jefferson County in Indiana, USA. Brownstown is the county seat.

1817 - Jennings County was formed from portions of Jackson County and Jefferson County.

1819 - Jackson County received land from a non-county area.

1820 - Jennings County received land from Jackson County, and Scott County was formed from portions of Jackson County, Clark County, Jefferson County, Jennings County and Washington County.

1821 - Bartholomew County was formed from portions of Jackson County and the Delaware New Purchase area.

1823 - Lawrence County received land from Jackson County.

1824 - The Delaware New Purchase Area received land from Jackson County, Marion County and Madison County.

1828 - Jackson County received land from the Delaware New Purchase Area, which had been renamed from the Delaware New Purchase Area in 1827.

1836 - Brown County received land from Jackson County, Monroe County and Bartholomew County.

1842 - Jackson County received land from a non-county area.

1859 - Lawrence County received land from Jackson County, creating Jackson County's current boundries.
