1637 - The city of Hartford was founded in the independent Connecticut Colony.

1662 - A royal charter was issued for the Connecticut Colony of England.

1666 - Hartford County was founded as one of the original counties in the Connecticut Colony.

1707 - On 1 May, England became a part of Great Britain.

1776 - On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. In November. The City of Hartford became the capital of Connecticut and the county seat of Hartford County.

1778 - On 12 February, Connecticut was the 5th state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.

1788 - On 9 January, Connecticut became the 5th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.

1960 - The Hartford County government was disbanded in favor of the City of Hartford government.
