Notes:
1746 - Granville County was formed from a portion of Edgecombe County, Province of North Carolina, UK.

1752 - Oragne County formed from portions of Granville County, Bladen County and Johnston County.

1764 - Bute County formed from a portion of Granville County.

1776 - In November, North Carolina created a constitution, separating it from the UK.

1789 - On 21 November, North Carolina became a state in the United States of America by ratifying the US Constitution.

1875 - Franklin County received land from Granville County.

1881 - Vance County formed from portions of Granville County, Franklin County and Warren County, creating Granville County's present day boundries.
