1777 - On 16 December, Virginia was the first state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.

1777 - Fluvanna County was formed from a portion of Albemarle county in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the USA.

1788 - On 25 June, Virginia became the 10th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.
