Notes:
1681 - The 2 original counties of East Jersey Province, England, were: Burlington and Salem.

1693 - The City of Burlington was incorporated and became the county seat in Burlington County, West Jersey Province, England.

1707 - On 17 April, East and West Jersey were combined into a royal colony, the Province of New Jersey. On 1 May, England became a part of the UK.

1777 - On 2 July, New Jersey became an independent state when they created a state constitution.

1776 - On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.

1778 - On 19 November, New Jersey was the 11th state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.

1787 - On 18 December, New Jersey became the 3rd state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.

1796 - The county seat of Burlington County was moved from the City of Burlington to Mount Holly Township.

1851 - The size of the City of Burlington was increased with land from Burlington County.
