1791 - Buncombe County formed from portions of Burke County and Rutherford County.

1794 - Iredell County received land from Burke County and Wilkes County.

1807 - Rutherford County received land from Burke County.

1814 - Burke County received land from Ashe County.

1833 - Yancey County formed from portions of Burke County and Buncombe County.

1841 - Caldwell County formed from portions of Burke County and Wilkes County.

1842 - McDowell County ormed from portions of Burke County and Rutherford County.

1859 - Caldwell County received land from Burke County, creating Burke County's present day boundries.
