1854 - Powell County exchanged land with Bath County. Morgan County received land from Powell County and Lawrence County.

1860 - Wolfe County formed from portions of Powell County, Owsley County, Breathitt County and Morgan County.

1869 - Menifee County formed from portions of Powell County, Wolfe County, Bath County, Morgan County and Montgomery County.

1880 - Menifee County received land from Powell County and Wolfe County.

1888 - Powell County received land from Menifee County, creating Powell County's present day boundries.
