Notes:
1733 - The Province of Georgia was chartered by Great Britian.

1735 - The town of Augusta was founded.

1776 - On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.

1777 - In February, Georgia created its state constitution. Richmond County was formed from the previous St. Paul's Parish, in the state of Georgia. Athens became the county seat of Richmond County.

1778 - On 26 February, Georgia was the 6th state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.

1788 - On 2 January, Georgia ratified the Constitution and became the 4th state in the United States of America.

1790 - Columbia County formed from a portion of Richmond County.

1793 - Warren County formed from portions of Richmond County and Wilkes County, creating Richmond County's present day boundries.

1995 - The City of Augusta and Richmond County formed one combined government, named Augusta-Richmond County.
