1854 - The Kansas Territory was created, and the town of Atchison was founded.

1855 - Atchison County was formed as one of the original counties in the Kansas Territory, and its boundries have not changed to the present day. The City of Atchison was incorporated and became the county seat of Atchison County.

1861 - On 29 January, Kansas became the 34th state in the United States of America.
