1614 - The Dutch began building forts in New Netherlands, which covered the future states of New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, and parts of Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
1624 - The community of Beverwicjk began near Fort Orange on the Hudson River.
1664 - England took control of New Netherlands, and remaned it the Province of New York. They also renamed Beverwicjk to Albany.
1673 - The Dutch re-took control of the Province of New York.
1674 - The Dutch ceded the Province of New York back to the English.
1683 - Albany County was formed as one of the original 12 counties in the Province of New York.
1707 - On 1 May, England became a part of Great Britain.
1776 - On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.
1777 - New York created a state constitution.
1778 - On 6 February, New York was the 3rd state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.
1788 - On 26 July, New York became the 11th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.
1797 - The state capitol of New York was permanently moved to Albany.
