[2] Cause: Consumption - "Died, of consumption June 24, 1899, at nine o'clock a.m. Mrs. Susan Owen (nee Chesnut) aged 46 years, 10 months and 12 days. She was born in Laurel county, Ky., on August 12, 1852. on September 3, 1874, she was married to William Owen; four children blessed their union, three of whom are still living. She was a member of the Christian church, lived a humble, patient and obedient life and died in full and triumphant faith in Christ as her Savior. Her remains were laid to rest in the old family grave yard in the presence of a host of sorrowing friends and relatives. In the death of Mrs. Owen, the father has lost a devoted companion, the children a kind mother and the church and community a good and faithful member and citizen, and while it grieves us to give her up, we humbly submit to God's will believing that we shall meet her again in that haven of rest, for we "sorrow not, even as others who have no hope." - Mountain Echo, Laurel Co., KY (Jun 1899)
