Story 1862 Palmyra, Marion, Missouri, USA
[4, 5] "Mollie" Stewart Meets Her Husband - Although Mollie was raised in Palmyra, Missouri by her mother's sister, Margaret Pickett HAMILTON FLETCHER, she returned to her native Kentucky to attend and graduate from the Georgetown Female Seminary in 1857. While there, she roomed with a Rebecca SCOTT. On a visit to the SCOTT home in Louisville, Kentucky, Mollie met a friend of the SCOTT family, Mildred COCHRANE. Mildred was making some white shirts for her brother, Dr. William Winston COCHRANE. Mildred told Mollie if she would make the button holes, she would give Mollie her brother. Mollie made the button holes.
Dr. COCHRANE heard a lot about Mollie from his sister, but when he visited Louisville from his home in Atchison, Kansas, Mollie was always at home in Palmyra. Finally he visited his brother Robert who was also living in Palmyra. Robert's wife was related to the aunt who raised Mollie. When they met, Dr. COCHRANE is reported to have said, "And this is the meteoric Mollie I have anticipated meeting for so long." They were married on 13 November 1862 in Palmyra, and settled in Atchison where they lived for the remainder of their lives.
